NCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — The North Lake Tahoe Bonanza was rewarded Saturday night in Virginia City at the 2011 Nevada Press Association “Better Newspaper Contest” convention, earning a slew of awards, including the prestigious General Excellence award as the best newspaper in its division — the second consecutive year for the award.
In all, the Bonanza earned eight awards at the annual convention, in which newspapers serving readers in Nevada are awarded top honors in the state for reporting, photography, graphic design, editorial writing, advertising and general excellence. The awards were for content created March 2010 through March 2011.
The General Excellence award is the top honor the NPA can award a newspaper, as it takes in all aspects of the paper’s production. The Bonanza won the award in NPA’s Class III division — community newspapers printed weekly with a circulation of less than 10,000.
Judges said: “Good photos, varied news coverage, engaging topics, good balance among news, opinion, classifieds, etc., robust content in nice package.”
The Bonanza’s sister paper in Truckee and Tahoe City, the Sierra Sun, earned seven awards in the Class II division (intermediate newspapers printed more than once a week with circulation of less than 15,000).
Below are the awards won for the Bonanza.
